DJ Games and Special Dances to Incorporate Into Your Wedding Reception
A packed dancefloor is every couple’s dream, but keeping guests engaged throughout the night takes more than just great music—it’s all about the experience! That’s where DJ games and special dances come in.
These interactive moments break the ice, create lasting memories, and get everyone from your college friends to your grandparents out on the floor. Let’s dive into some of our favorite ways to keep the energy high and the dancefloor full!

The Anniversary Dance: A Heartfelt Tradition
Want to celebrate the couples in your life? The Anniversary Dance is a sweet way to honor love and commitment while filling the dancefloor. Here’s how it works:
All married couples start dancing.
The DJ gradually calls out years—“If you’ve been married less than one year, step to the side!”—until the longest-married couple remains.
The final couple gets a round of applause (and maybe some marriage advice for the newlyweds!).
The Shoe Game: Hilarious & Crowd-Pleasing
This game is a classic for a reason—it’s fun, interactive, and gets the whole room involved.
The couple sits back-to-back, each holding one of their own shoes and one of their partner’s.
The DJ asks questions like, “Who is the better driver?” or “Who said ‘I love you’ first?”
The couple raises the shoe of the person they think fits the answer!
Guests love watching how well the newlyweds really know each other.
Dance-Offs: Get Ready to Show Off Your Moves
Nothing gets the energy up like a friendly competition on the dancefloor!
The DJ picks two groups or individuals to go head-to-head in a dance battle.
Guests cheer for their favorites, and the best dancer(s) win bragging rights (or a fun prize!).
Want to take it up a notch? Add glow sticks or props to make it extra entertaining (see our blog about dancefloor accessories HERE!)
The Dollar Dance: A Fun & Traditional Way to Celebrate
The Dollar Dance is a long-standing wedding tradition with roots in multiple cultures, including Polish, Filipino, Greek, and Hispanic communities. In Mexican weddings, a version of this dance, sometimes called 'El Baile del Billete,' involves guests pinning money onto the couple’s clothing as a gesture of financial support for their new life together. Across different cultures, the dance serves as a fun way to celebrate the couple while also contributing to their honeymoon fund. Here’s how it works:
Guests line up to dance with the bride or groom, offering a small cash gift for their turn. They can use pins to add money to the couples clothes or just use a basket or bag (or Venmo since its 2025 after all!)
It’s a great way to sneak in one-on-one moments with your guests while keeping the dancefloor packed!
The Newlywed Trivia Game: Test Your Guests’ Knowledge
If you love a good game show moment, this one’s for you! The DJ asks the crowd questions about the couple, and the guests compete to see who knows them best. Example questions:
Where did the couple meet?
What’s their go-to date night spot?
Who takes longer to get ready?
The winner gets a prize—or just the satisfaction of being the ultimate wedding insider!
The Find-It Game: A Scavenger Hunt with a Twist
Looking to get everyone up and moving? The Find-It Game combines the excitement of a scavenger hunt with a competitive twist, making it a fantastic addition to your reception. This is a surefire way to inject laughter and friendly competition into your reception while keeping the energy high!
How It Works:
The DJ announces an item for participants to find—these can range from something easy like a “red lipstick” to something more challenging like a “hotel room key.”
Upon hearing "Go!", participants rush into the crowd to retrieve the specified item.
Once they've secured the item, they race back to find an available chair on the dancefloor.
The last person to return is eliminated, and one chair is removed after each round until there’s only one winner!
Make Your Reception One to Remember
Your wedding should be filled with moments that make people laugh, dance, and celebrate. Whether it’s a heartfelt Anniversary Dance, a high-energy dance-off, or a hilarious Shoe Game, these DJ-led activities bring everyone together for an unforgettable night.
